NZ Adventures is a 4x4 back country tour operation currently offering six different tours covering a large portion and indeed many different aspects of the South Island.
Established in the late 1990s, NZ Adventures is owned and operated by Southland based Robbie and Connie Crickett.
For Robbie, the 2021 season marks 23 years of guiding motor vehicle tours along the back tracks of the South Island.
NZ Adventures has access arrangements with 120 farm and station landowners throughout the South Island and has DOC concessions in Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury and Otago conservancies along with access to several plantation forestry estates.
All tours include accommodation and meals to the highest standards in some of the scenic gems of the South Island including amongst other towns and villages, Hanmer Springs, Lake Tekapo, St Bathans and Alexandra.
There are plenty of tour products on offer with 2021/22 dates due to be set in January.
High Country Heritage
A six-day 1250km epic down the backbone of the South Island from Blenheim to Cardrona near Queenstown. Includes the eastern side of Molesworth.
West Coast Explorer
A five-day trip highlighting the transition between the east and west of the South Island. Hanmer Springs to Greymouth via the back country. Includes western Molesworth and St James.
A new trip in 2018 this is a six-day tour through South Canterbury, the MacKenzie Country and Central Otago with the scenic splendour of the Alpine Mountains as a daily backdrop. Starting in Geraldine and with overnights in Omarama, Cromwell, Cardrona and Alexandra (three nights)
A new tour back in 2014 this has become a very popular five days exploring the eastern shoulders of the South Island. The Oteake and Te Papanui Conservation Parks along with the Strath Taieri are little known highlights of this trip.
Introduced to the NZ Adventures tour lineup in 2016, 46 South is an interesting and diverse journey along an imaginary line across the Southern South Island starting in Lawrence and ending in Cromwell with overnights in Gore, Invercargill, Monowai and Te Anau. Highlights are likely to centre on the diversity from the coastal scenery in the Catlins to the Fiordland beech forest and the vast open country of Northern Southland.
Roll on Waitaki
The first of what NZ Adventures plans to be a more in-depth farm tour experience with some interesting and scenic tracks covering South Canterbury and North Otago. Trip will cover a wide range of land use from extensive high country fine wool production through to intensive dairying.
